Preservation Development in Action: the MillCreek Barn

Charter Homes' celebrated MillCreek neighborhood is built on a unique and historic site, with many elements that reflect the charm and local heritage of Lancaster County. The historic "Bank Barn" building offered a unique opportunity to preserve the site's past and create a gathering space for the neighborhood's future. Charter Homes made significant structural improvements and repairs to the barn, as well as aesthetic improvements to the exterior viewed by passers-by.


Charter Homes didn't just stop at the barn - we created open space, walking trails, and nearly 30 acres of greenway, all carefully planned out by a nationally renowned landscape architect. Perhaps even more important is what we didn't build: Charter saved the most beautiful and ecologically valuable spaces for public use and enjoyment.  Residents and community members alike can enjoy ample green space and a beautifully protected creek area.

In the end, we at Charter Homes achieved our goal - to preserve and protect the site's past while incorporating it seamlessly into the future of the MillCreek community.
